ON a very fun note...I was able to do some recording in "The Studio" today. My awesome brother has offered to pay for me to record a full cd of some of my favorite songs. This is such a wonderful opportunity. I recorded a Christmas album this past season in one day, and it felt very rushed, so it's nice to be able to work on just one song, and add different instruments to liven it up. I hope the above link works...This is my first time posting music on the blog so if it doesn't work, please send me a note and let me know.
"Your Cheatin' Heart" was of course written by Hank Williams, but my version is a take on the Ray Charles' cover from "Modern Sounds in Country and Western Music". Hank is legendary and I love his lyrics, but Ray Charles gave it soul. I hope to be able to record another song within the next month or so. If any of you have a song suggestion I'd love to hear it!
Before I move on, I have to give glowing remarks about the producer and one man band I worked with today! John Houston is owner of The Studio and does everything from Film and Video to Music production. Before this morning we hadn't practiced together and he hadn't heard this song in years. Within a couple hours he had the piano, bass guitar, drums, and even the accordian down on the tracks! He's amazing. I feel so grateful to be able to work with him.
Moving on to my 30 Days of Beauty Photo: Blue on Blue
The weather has been warming up and we've enjoyed sunny days with wide open blue skies. Yesterday as I was hanging the laundry on the line I noticed how gorgeous my tie dye tablecloth looked against the vibrant blue of the sky.
It's good to be home. We had a lot of fun on out trip to Phoenix, browsing through the madhouse that is the VNSA book sale, and visiting with family. My most EXCITING find on our trip wasn't anything we got at the book sale (although I did find some amazing books and hope to share with you later).
This beauty of a sewing specimen is a 1921 Singer Model 66 "Red Eye" treadle operated machine. Can I mention how long I have LONGED for one of these beauties? They don't come around too often, unless they're really expensive. She was destined for me.
The decals are almost perfect. Truly amazing for a machine of her age.
In keeping to the tune of our goal of self-sufficiency, human powered machines are just the kind that we like around our house. I still need to clean her, oil her, and am waiting for the manual and attachments etc. to come in the mail. But I am so excited!
It's great to be back home. I send my blessings your way!
